Name of God - Metzuda: Fortress
Daily Verse: He sang: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
☆ 2 Samuel 22:2 NLT
Let's Talk About It: Being a retired combat Veteran, I've seen many different types of refuges and fortresses. Some were traditional and others were more like reinforced buildings. One of the Military Occupational Specialties I held was an Armor Crewman on an M1A1 and M1A2 Abrams tank. I served as a driver, loader, gunner, and tank commander.
During my service, the Abrams tank was considered to be the most powerful land vehicle made. The firepower and "indestructible" nature brought extreme confidence and a sense of security to the crew. Bunkers, fortified buildings, even other armored tanks were no match for the power of this "fortress on wheels". We placed our confidence in this fighting machine.
However, time proved that our rolling fortress was not so indestructible, as many were rendered inoperative and even destroyed by devices that were made by non-military individuals. This shook our confidence in its ability to completely protect us. It was made clear that our trust was misplaced.
Our Father...Creator of Heaven and Earth is our true deliverer. He is our strong tower, our rock, our fortress...Metzudah. When faced with fear or overwhelming trouble, it's not man nor manmade devices we should turn to or put our faith in. David, in Psalms 56: 3-4, gives testimony to this. God never falters and those who place their trust in Him will NEVER be put to shame (Psalms 25: 3).
God is our living fortress. We can always depend on our Father to pull us through the tough times. All we have to do is go to Him and trust in His way. Looking back, I now see that it wasn't the tank that protected me, but my Father in Heaven who was (and continue to be) my fortress. This is one of the countless ways I know God as Metzudah. How do you know Him as your fortress? - Kevin
