Name of God - Jehovah-Magen: Shield
Daily Verse: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”

Let's Talk About It: “Jehovah” is the Hebrew word for God and “Magen” is Hebrew for shield so this name of God literally means God is my shield. I cannot think about this name of God without also thinking about the many times God has saved me from certain danger. Truth be told, once we reach heaven, we will all probably see many more ways that we don’t even know about in which God has shielded each of us from danger.
When I was searching for the perfect verse for this name of God, this one resonated with me so deeply. I have experienced God as my Rock. When my world seemed to be crumbling around me, He was the the only constant in my life. When I experienced heartache, He was my place of safety, and He also shielded me from more hurt and trauma. He is my Protector.
I can remember one instance in particular in which I’ve seen God move on my husband’s behalf. We had just had an argument and he left the house to run an errand. About 10 minutes later, I felt like I heard the Holy Spirit say, “pray for your husband.” My flesh, honestly, did not want to. I wavered for a moment, then I was obedient and prayed.
Little did I know that someone at that moment had pulled out in front of him and stopped while he was riding his motorcycle. While the motorcycle was totaled, he walked away with only a couple spots of road rash. God had definitely shielded him from certain injury. That also happens to be just one of many times I’ve witnessed first hand, the power of prayer.
Maybe you haven’t experienced God as your shield. The time will come when He makes Himself known in this way to you, dear one. Until then, I encourage you to lean into Him and build your relationship with Him.
