Name of God - Bara: Creator
Bara: Creator
Daily Verse: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.”
☆ Isaiah 40:28 NKJV
Let's Talk About It: Today’s Name of God is simple and straight to the point. I personally believe this name sums everything one needs to know about our God…our Heavenly Father. It is a foundational truth that once it gets into “your knower” (thanks for the phrase, Pastor Jim), it will help you to dismiss the lies taught about evolution and creation.
I will be explaining today’s Name of God differently from the previous ones. I pray that though very simple in nature and format, the message is received and understood. Bara (baw-raw’), according to the Hebrew Strong’s Dictionary, means to create (creator), (qualified) to cut down, dispatch, do, make (fat).
There happened to be a group of college aged boys having a discussion at a park about who’s god was the most powerful. Each one was given a chance to describe why their god was deserving of the title. The first young man said, “My god is the strongest. He is the king of all the underworld. He is responsible for and has complete control over all the dead souls that come to his domain. And he possesses a helmet that makes him invisible.”
The next young man said, “My god is the king of all the gods. He rules with the power of lightening and smites all his enemies with it. He has shape-shifting ability and can control the weather. He rules from a mountain far above, in the clouds.”
The next young man said, “Your god sounds like mine, except mine is the most powerful. He is the god of the sky and thunder. An entire planet was even named after him.”
The fourth young man said, “Well, the strongest and most powerful thing in the world is the mind. My person isn’t a god, but he is the fully awakened one. He is wisdom times wisdom.”
The last young man said, “Success, knowledge, and money is true power. My god is the most powerful because he is lord of all of those.”
As the last young man was finishing up, a little boy about 12 years of age walked over and said, “Excuse me, I heard y’all talking about who’s god is the most powerful and I wanna know if I can share.” With great laughter, the young men told the little boy, “sure.” One of the young men offered a bet to another that the little boy would mention a superhero from comic books. With the softest voice, the little boy said, “My God made the underworld as a place for bad people to live (Matthew 25:41; 2Peter 2:4).”
After hearing this, the young men stopped laughing and began to pay close attention to the little boy with curiosity and amazement. Then he continued, “My God spoke the mountains into existence, He stores the clouds, and invented lightening (Job 34:14-16). Without lifting a pinky, He separated water from water, making the sky (Genesis 1: 6-8). The fear of my God is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). And finally, every generous act and good thing comes from my God. Oh, and my God invented the elephants and humans (Genesis 1:24-25).”
After saying this, one of the young men said, “I do believe we can all agree that your God is truly the strongest and most powerful. Who is your God, whom you have been telling us about?” The little boy cleared his throat and said, “He is known by many names. In this case, He is Bara, The Creator.” Then he clinched his little fists, put them on his hips, poked out his little chest, and after taking a deep breath the little boy said, “And His Holy Spirit lives in me.”
Our Heavenly Father is The Grand Architect, Creator of all creation. Being so, He alone is worthy of all praise, honor, and glory without question. He is the Master. If you were to take a huge tree and make a beautiful table out of it, you would be the “master” or “lord” of that table. Our Father, the only true living God, created the sky, water, light, every living creature that flies, crawls, walks, and runs. He created vegetation and yes, even us humans. He made the earth and the heavens and everything that dwells in/on them (Genesis 1; 2:4).
Do not be confused or deceived by non-believers and their scientific reasoning, friends. In all of their “wisdom” and science, have they ever been able to make water? They know it is comprised of two hydrogen and one oxygen, yet they cannot take those molecules and make water; Only God can. The God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob…our God, is the one and only BARA…Creator! Stand on that firm foundation and thank Him today for creation. – Kevin
