Daily Devotional - March 28, 2021
ð Worship: If you'd like to play a song before you begin or while you read, may we recommend "Agnes Dei" by Michael W. Smith. Why not try asking alexa, siri, or google to play it for you?!Â
ð Daily Verse: Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.
â 1 Thessalonians 5:23â-â¬24 NLT
ð Let's Talk About It: How do we become Holy in every way? Paul says it is God who makes us holy.
First and foremost, we must understand the definition of holy as it pertains to this particular scripture. If you look at the New American Standard Version, you'll see the use of the word sanctify. This is a literal translation of hagios. However, hagios is not used in the OT. The Hebrew form of this word was always translated at holy, holiness, and the like. Therefore, to understand this under the terms of the New Covenant (NT), we must understand the Abrahamic Covenant.
Just as Abraham had no hand in His own righteousness and holiness, neither do we, not in an active sense; but we do in the passive.
What I mean is, we must be submitted to God and His will if we expect sanctification in full. That's holiness...being set apart for the glorification of God.
Jesus leads the way, and we have a choice to follow or not. While we may deviate, Paul assures us, God is in control. His will WILL be done. Just ask Jonah...
â€Â Prayer: Father, thank you for grace and for making me holy. Lord, if anyone knows just how unholy I am by nature, it's you. Thank you for looking past my fault and for, most importantly, making me more and more like Your Son everyday. Father, I am in awe of your mercy and am so grateful to be able to praise you with Thanksgiving today. Thank you for touching the lives of all those I love. Help me to walk in obedience daily. I love you Jesus and in your name I pray, amen.
