Daily Devotional - February 1, 2021 - Love of God
π Worship: If you'd like to play a song before you begin or while you read, may we recommend "Reckless Love" by Cory Asbury. Why not try asking alexa, siri, or google to play it for you?!
π Daily Verse: βFor this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
β John 3:16β-β¬17 NLT
π Let's Talk About It: The second verse in this passage is in stark contrast to the Mosaic Law. When we understand the Mosaic Law, we see the regulations in place and the fact that God is judge, and He is a jealous God.
What's ironic is that God's jealousy drives His love for us. He doesn't just want our adoration. He wants our absolute devotion. This is why Jesus did not come to judge, but to save.
It is a picture of how God is a gentleman, not a dictator. He will not force us to love Him, but He will spill out His mercy and grace and love upon us until we come to see Him for who He is - Love. Pure Love.
Without our Lord Jesus, we were doomed to a life of rules without relationship. Our precious gift of the Holy Spirit is the second greatest gift we receive when we accept Christ as our Savior. It is the source by which God guides us, directs us, and even comforts us.
As we begin focusing on the love of God this month, we must first recognize that amazing sacrifice He was willing to endure in order to be with us - to live in us and work through us, not just once in a while, but every moment of every day. In the little moments. In the big moments. In all moments.
𧑠Prayer: Father God, I am so grateful for your sacrifice. You gave your Son, Jesus, so that I may be able to speak to you as I speak to you now. THANK YOU Jesus, for laying your life down so that I can have salvation and freedom in your name. Thank you, Abba, for your precious Holy Spirit. Lord, help me to live a life that is worthy of your glory, a life that is filled with sacrifice and love for your namesake. Jesus, help me to see people as you see them, so that I may love them as you love them. I love you Jesus, and in your mighty name I pray, amen.
