Daily Devotional ~ Nothing But Jesus

Daily Devotional ~ Nothing But Jesus

Worship: If you'd like to play a song before you begin or while you read, may we recommend "Nothing Else" by Cody Carnes.

Daily Verse: I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
☆ Philippians 3:7 NLT

Let's Talk About It: More, more, more...it's what most people spend their life searching for.

More money.
More clothes.
More cars.
More followers.
More tithes.
More friends.
More people in the pew.
Bigger house.
Bigger church.
More influence.
Bigger platform.
More.

None of those can fill the void we each have in our hearts due to the The Fall of Man. Only Jesus can fill that. And searching the world over for the love that only He can provide leads us further away from the truth.

In a day and age when all that we want can be found at our fingertips, the search for meaning in this life has come to a screeching halt. Instant answers are what people seek, and for the world, nothing else will do.

But Paul reminds us of just how worthless everything else is in comparison to Christ. As you try to build your sphere of influence, gain followers, amass wealth, etc. remember friend, you can't take any of that with you.

Christ tells us in Matt. 7:14 that the road to life is narrow...and difficult. It's going to include suffering (Acts 9:16), and few will ever find it.

So, what path do you choose? The narrow road to Jesus or the broad path to hell (Matt. 7:13)?

Additional Reading: Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.
☆ Philippians 3:8-9 NLT

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for today. Thank you for every day, even those days you know I would rather forget. Lord, forgive me for placing things of this world above a relationship with you. Forgive me for caring more about what people think than what you think. Abba, you have shielded me and protected me from so much, many things I don't even know about. As I struggle today Lord, with seeing me, my family, my job, my country, my church, whatever "it" may be as more important than you, help me to remember that you are all that is important. Give me strength today, Jesus to say no to the things of this world. I love you Lord and thank you for the life you've given me. I thank you for hearing my prayer, and may your will be done. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
